The JIB is an impartial organisation that sets the standards for employment, welfare, grading and apprentice training in the electrical contracting industry. Our work is targeted at improving the industry, its status and productivity.
Our membership comprises the UK’s largest electrical contractors to the SMEs who make up the bulk of our members. Together, they benefit from a ‘one-stop-shop’ which takes care of employment matters, a comprehensive health and benefits scheme, and unique access to markets other contractors cannot reach.
In setting the standards for training, competence and terms and conditions of employment, the JIB has helped its members to maintain stability in the workplace and offer employment conditions that attract, train and motivate the best operatives.
As a result, JIB membership benefits the company and the employees, and assures clients that they are engaging qualified staff, with technical competence and customer service that only a motivated workforce can provide.
NICEIC is the UK’s leading voluntary regulatory body for the electrical contracting industry. It has been assessing the electrical competence of electricians for nearly sixty years and currently maintains a roll of over 26,000 registered contractors.
In addition to our core electrical business we provide certification to firms across the heating, plumbing, renewable and insulation sectors. Our focus is supporting firms to help improve their businesses.
We provide a number of products and services specifically tailored to help contractors meet the changing nature of the construction industry. This includes training, technical advice, certification and information on all the latest industry developments. We aim to help firms see past short term survival and prepare for long-term planning.
NICEIC has developed a reputation amongst consumers, specifiers of work and industry for promoting safety, integrity and technical excellence.
Our contractors undergo a rigorous assessment process, covering a representative sample of their work, their premises, documentation, equipment, and the competence of their key supervisory staff. They are then re-assessed on a regular basis to ensure continued compliance.
Founded in 1901, the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) is the UK’s leading trade association representing the interests of contractors who design, install, inspect, test and maintain electrical and electronic equipment and services.

Our members range from local contractors to national building services organisations and collectively have an annual turnover of more than £5 billion, employ over 30,000 operatives and support 8,000 apprentices in craft training.
To work with regulatory bodies, government and opinion formers to build an efficient and sustainable industry, based on high standards of training and practice. Through representation and lobbying, the ECA actively leads on key issues including safety, training, qualification and technological development.

The Safe Contractor scheme provides a health and safety audit service for contractors who want to reassure their clients that health and safety is being handled correctly and sufficiently on their sites.
With legislation placing an ever-increasing burden on organisations to ensure the health and safety competency of contractors, it is vital to have a reliable system in place to assess the suitability of arrangements made by service providers whilst they are on your premises.
